Five years. That’s how long Lucha Libre Femenil has been bringing all-women’s wrestling action to Mexican fans. And not simply the occasional show, but rather five years of amazing ring action week after week, month after month, year after year! When the LLF was first launched, many said it could not last. But the fans have proven that there is a large and avid group who will support the ladies. In that spirit, this show was as much a celebration of the fans as it was of the women!

Before the evening’s events began, it was announced that after its regular hiatus, the LLF will return for its 2006 season between the second fortnight of February and the first of March, an announcement which was greeted with great applause by the capacity crowd at the arena.

In the opening match of the night, Flor de Loto overcame Lady Angel following a fast-paced battle what saw Angel emerge not only defeated, but suffering from an injured left hand.

The next match was informally dubbed the “Battle of the Queens,” as Reina Vampira and Reina Azteca faced one another. However, the bout had barely begun before a mysterious cloaked woman rushed into the ring from the crowd, laying out both Azteca and Vampira with a foreign object, and rendering them nearly unconscious. It was only then that this enigmatic figure removed her cowl to reveal herself as…Simply Luscious! The Texan was making her unexpected return to the LLF after many months, and in a most stunning…and violent…fashion, thereby sending notice to all of the women in the league that she is ready to wage war!

Next, the LLF Tag Team Championship was placed on the line as titleholders La Felina and Princesa Yara faced the challenge of Tigresa del Norte and Intrusa. All four women battled spectacularly, holding back nothing in their quest for the gold! And both teams impressed the fans by fighting largely within the rules, demonstrating that a purely scientific match could still be as exciting as any hardcore brawl…if not more so. When it was all over, the LLF had a new pair of champions, as Intrusa and Tigresa succeeded in beating their rivals for the belts!

In a special presentation, Polly Star was named as the Best Fighter of 2005, in recognition of the many hard battles she was fought this past year. Afterwards, Polly teamed with Linda Star in tag team action against Novia de Jasón and La Bruja. As expected, this was a wild melee that saw all of the luchadoras using every tactic they could think of. And, of course, the match spilled out of the ring onto the arena floor. It ended with a hard-won victory for Polly Star and Linda Star.

The Semifinal battle of the night was the much-anticipated match between La Chacala and Lady Dinamita and, making their LLF debut, the American duo of T&A, better known as April Hunter and Talía! This match was a great mixture of technical prowess and sheer raw power, with Chacala and April doing the most to shake the whole ring! Theirs seemed to be a very personal war, as each did their utmost to overpower the other. The tide finally turned in the luchadoras’ favor when Chacala hit Hunter with her ‘Chacala Bomb’; if the redhead believed that she had the strength to withstand this devastating move, she was sadly…and painfully…mistaken! From this point on, Chacala and Dinamita really punished their opponents (helped a bit by Simply Luscious, who came back out to ringside intent on getting a few licks in at April. Is there a past history between these two women, or is this the start of a new feud that may span two countries?), until finally putting the Americans away with the pin.

At last, the Main Event was at hand. This match would be the capstone of the entire night…indeed, the entire year. This would be a Best of Three Falls encounter between Tsunami and American Angel; what’s more, there was a special stipulation that the loser would have to relinquish her mask to the winner.

The first fall was waged with a violent intensity which shocked even the most jaded of LLF fans, as neither woman wanted to be the first to suffer a loss. The rules were quickly abandoned by Tsunami, who managed to get her hands on a metal padlock and, with a blow to American Angel’s head, left her prone for the pin.

Before the start of the second fall, however, T&A came to ringside in a show of solidarity with their countrywoman…and to make sure, perhaps, that Tsunami did not get her hands on any more weapons. Knowing she could not afford any mistakes, Angel wrestled with stunning brilliance, and finally managed to pin the ruda with an Olympic Bridge, thus tying up the match with a fall apiece.

The third and final round saw the ring unable to contain the storm as the two masked women tore into one another with wild fury! Everything the two could get their hands on…trash cans, chairs, the ring stairs, even one of the LLF’s camcorders…were used as weapons. Chacala also found herself out at ringside during the brawl, and got mixed up in the action, as did April and Talía. But in the end it all came down to American Angel and Tsunami, and that end did come after Tsunami managed to slam her rival to the mat, stunning her long enough to score the third pin and win the match!

A woman of honor, American Angel duly removed her mask and handed it to the victor… and thus was revealed as Sara Del Rey!

LLF 12.16.05

Without a doubt, this was one of the more exciting nights of LLF action EVER! Old scores were settled, new rivalries were born, and another successful year has been drawn to a close.
